Bookcase redo

This is the second part of the LM's bedroom redo I am just slack in not posting them next to each other... - The LM's bookcases  take up a large section of wall and are very important to us to use for storage of the LM's bits and pieces and books....

I bought these units to have in the LM's room from the Reject shop as they were the closet to the colour timber I wanted at the time to match his bed and chest of drawers.....

While I did like them I decided now that we are painting the house (starting in LM's room) that the unit has to either go or be repainted and thinned out of all the junk we have collected over the years....

Bad photo but I wanted to show you how they looked before....FULL...

I didn't really want to buy new ones as there is nothing wrong with these I just want a change so paint it is...

After emptying them of all his junk (it's not all coming back thank goodness )  gee it looks so sad sitting there all empty .....

I gave them a coat of primer so the paint will stick to the laminate better. Please note that the bottles of beer here are not mine they are Kevin's...and yes it is wonderful that he put them here while I am trying to redo them-He is very lucky that the shelves  were dry or I would of killed him...

I am really fighting against everything trying to do these bookcases-first Kev and his beer bottles and then a certain husband who shall remain nameless  'KEVIN'   just goes and sands the walls next to my  wet bookcase, also  I have to work around not only  a little boy getting in the way but a 49year old boy doing his best to hinder me...well he  only sometimes hinders me other than that he is great in helping me.I guess I cant have it good all the time so I am going to stop whingeing.....

The cubes to the right have had 1 coat primer and 1 coat paint. The other cubes are just primed.Kev painted the cubes with their second coat of paint and they look great but I think I will give them another coat just to be safe as they are going to be used often.

Kev bought a small wooden trim to cover the joins in the units. You couldn't see them before when they were wood but they stood out after we painted them....

I have got rid of so so so much junk from his room that I am trying to go for a uncluttered look...yes this is an uncluttered look.....

I have used Dulux Lexicon Quarter in  a semi gloss paint  and we also used that to paint the bead board as well so I can easily wipe off any dirty marks which I know that there will be .....

                                                                          Before...

Mixed up Photos Friday 15

Hi
Hope you enjoy my photos that I have for you this week....

The LM took this photo for me.I really love violets I think they are pretty close to being one of my favourite flowers....

What a cutie,I took this as I think this will be the last time LM wears his winter school  uniform as it is  warming up now and he is complaining about getting  hot legs  in it....

A little selfie I took of me and Jaxon.  Urghhh I hate the spots on my face but they are part of my immune problem....

Tyler's first footy photo. He did really well this season his dad Daniel was the coach so it was a good family effort....

My dear friend Gillian Lester has updated her hair and dyed it  to red.....Looks beautiful Gill.Watch out Ben (her husband) she looks great..

Jaxon looks like a little doll sitting here.I made him the sign.....such a cutie........

Kerry and Jaxon ........Kerry  is turning out to be such a wonderful mother I am so proud of her.

Yes Jaxon you are a cutie.....

Remember when I did a post on vintage toys...well this "duck duck" was Kerry's as a baby and now Jaxon has it.....

We did have a little pug called Bonnie after the legend Bon Scott from AC/DC  well we had to give her up and Brie and Annaliese took her -love her and spoil her....here they bought her a new coat just for me to see.....UNREAL_LOVE IT....

Thanks Jaxon for washing  my Iphone -"maybe he doesn't like Apple phones Dee and wants a Samsung phone"was what the LM said.I kid you not

When Kerry and Jaxon came over last we tried Jaxon with a crustit....he shoved it in his little mouth and sucked it.I guess he likes it....Check out my best friend in the back ground (my walker)

The LM dressed as Harry Potter for his schools Book Week Parade.

No problem with this as he looked rather cute but when I asked if I could take a photo of him as Harry he said"omg another one " and pulled this face.Hey I hope the wind doesn't change ha Ha ah

I made him a wand as I forgot to buy one.It is a drum stick which I painted with green sparkle nail polish onto it.LM and I thought it looked ok.I can't tell you what Kevin thought as I am a lady who doesn't say such rude things....

Have a great weekend......

ABC wall art is as easy as 123.......

I love handmade items to go into baby's room they look so good and you know that they have been made with love...

I decided to make up a ABC wall art to go into Jaxons room I knew what I wanted but I couldn't get the wooden letters over here (well the ones I wanted ) so I got onto Etsy and found these.

When they arrived I was surprised they were bigger than I thought  around 10cms each plus they had a brown  colour around the edge from where they had been cut out. They were perfect and would look great for this project.Actually they were better than what I wanted  and I am so happy with them that I am going to order another set now to make another set up before I get over it....ha ha

Now should I do it this way  or.......

This way?....In the end I decided on the other way....

I started tracing my letters out on some scrap papers I used 13 different types then I placed them onto the frame just to see f I liked them in the order I had the papers.I only had to re do a couple....

I think this was the worse part tracing the letters then cutting them all out....Yep I have decided this was the worse part....

Hang on having to modge podge 26 letters wasn't all that much fun either....When they were all done I painted a coat of modge podge to the top of them to give them a nice gloss finish..

When that was dry I went around each letter and trimmed the excess paper then I used a ink pad and lightly used this on the edges to finish it off....

Tip- I also used a nail file to sand off excess paper it works a treat.

Next just place the letters onto my backing board which I had painted white.Stand back and go  AHHH..........looks good doesn't it  and then glue on each letter...

When dry put it into your frame I bought this from the Reject shop for $15 dollars. It was suppose to hold three 8 x10 inch pictures in it so it is a big frame....

Now just stand back and admire you work.I really like this and even though it was a pain it was really easy to do.Would I make another one? 'No way'.......... it is easy but took too long for me....

Jaxon loves it...." thanks nana  I love it" that is what he is saying.....No!!!! the glue fumes have not effected my brain...

Last look......... as you can tell I do like this..

Can you see the letter "J" I love this paper I cant remember who makes it as  I have had it for years.. well anyway I wanted the "J" to be special because it is for 'Jaxon' so  I picked this paper with the little bird on it so it was different to the others but still blend in.

What made me happy about this is Kev really liked it and more importantly Kerry did as well.

Washi magnetic message holder.

Today I am showing you a really quick project that anyone can do.And Actually the LM who is 6 did this himself that is how easy it is...

I had a little wooden plaque in my cupboard it was only 2mm thick and I asked the LM if he wanted to do some craft with me.

I got out my Washi tape and let him choose whatever colours he wanted

He tore off the tape and wraped it around the wood and kept repeating this till the plaque was all covered in different coloured tape..

Then we attached a really strong magnet on the back and on the front we glued two little pegs at either end.

The back is messy but come on he is 6 years old.

And there you have it a magnetic message holder .He gave this to his Auntie Pam so she can put it on her fridge for notes and such.

I am so proud of this and the possibilities are endless. You could do the same technique on a book `or diary or even a little box would look cute.

We are going to make a couple more for the school fair that is coming up.I think they would even make a nice gift for someone and best of all they were easy enough to make that even a 6 year old could do it and he did....

Just wanted to show it to you again as I think he did so good.

From Laundry doors to a blackboard

I hate my Laundry I really do.We are going to change it all but there are other things more important to do before we tackle that room.So I suffer in silence ha ha (sure I do....)

Well the point here is I was painting a small piece of wood to make a blackboard and  I starting thinking (whoa Dee you are entering dangerous territory here thinking it only gets you into trouble ha ha ) that the LM would love a blackboard to draw on ..... BING a idea popped into my head "why don't I just paint the doors inside my laundry that way the LM has a blackboard and I am eventually getting rid  of the doors when we renovate so no harm done.

Yeah great idea Dee you are a legend.......

1- take one set of doors....

2- use some painters tape and mark off where you want the blackboard to end/start....

3-Give the doors 2 coats of black board paint I actually used 3 coats...

4-While last coat of paint is still wet carefully take the tape off the door...

5-Season your board be rubbing chalk all over the board. This is best done while you sing ABBA songs which is what these two are doing...

6- Draw draw and some more drawing and don't forget the fun....

Kevin screwed a little pencil holder onto the door so the LM can put his eraser and chalk into it....

LOOKS GREAT AND LM IS HAVING SO MUCH FUN USING IT ....I WISH I HAD DONE IT EARLIER...

Home Sweet Gnome

Last weekend we went to our local nursery to pick up a few little plants  and while  we were there I had to check out their home wares. They had the cutest little garden gnomes painted bright pink and some turquoise blue they looked so cute till I saw the price. You have got to be kidding I wouldn't pay that much ever for a garden gnome NO WAY....

All week these little fellas have been stuck in my mind.I liked them for a pop of colour in the garden but I wasn't paying that much for them so I went to Bunnings where I got these 2 big ones  for $10 each and the little one is from the cheap shop for $2.And guess what I still haven't paid the amount they wanted for that one gnome  and I have three gnomes so I am still in front ....

Out came the primer and I gave them all a good coat.I actually even liked them white and thought they would look good like this at Christmas with some glitter on their hats.....maybe we will see them come December who knows "Christmas Gnomes"....

Then out came the spray paint.I didn't want to buy  any so I  used  what I had on hand and that was hot pink and orange...........I gave them 2 light coats.

LOVE THEM LOVE THEM LOVE THEM....................

I don't need to say anymore..................but I will I really love these they look cute in my wine barrels but I am going to move them out to the backyard just in case someone decides to pinch them from the front -Gnome kidnapping.....

I sent Kerry the pictures of my little gnomes and she asked me to make her two to go into her vegie garden how cute will that be ...So we will have to go back to Bunnings for some Gnome shopping...

Do you have any gnomes in your garden?
