Gravity cake

Because it is Book week at LM's school this week I wanted to make a cake for his class.I had seen these Gravity cakes on Instagram and Pinterest and thought I will make him one of those....

Now me being me left it till 30mins till Kevin had to take it to the school so don't look too close or you will see my mistakes but truly this is a really easy cake to make...

And yes I made this in 30 mins but do remember I had bought a cake so all I was doing was just decorating it....
I have made a mini tutorial here so you can see how easy it was .Sorry about the fuzzy photos I didn't clean the lens  and when I looked at my phone I thought it was the problem so I was going through the settings like a mad woman  till Kev told me to check the lens duh!!! ha ha .....

Now what you need is...

A cake duh!  I bought a mud cake as I didn't want to make one.
Cake board larger than the cake.
Balloon stick and cup, I got mine from Spotlight a pack of six for around $3.
Lollies. I used 2 bags of M&M's and one small bag of M&M's.
Melted chocolate. I used Nestles chocolate melt buttons and only used a half packet to cover my cake and stick.
A small paint brush to brush on the chocolate.

Dip your balloon stick CUP in the melted chocolate and stick to cake board. When dry stick the stick in the cup.

Push your cake through the stick ..

I then put some melted chocolate onto the base of the straw and a bit on the cake and quickly stuck the M&M's on.. then you keep doing that a bit of chocolate (using the brush) onto the straw then lollies and on and on till the desired height.

Because this cake was for the kids I wanted to really spill the lollies over most of the cake so I just poured the chocolate on and stuck the lollies in it where I wanted it to go.

Then with the small pack (emptied by Kevin who was eating them while helping ha ha ) we stuck a couple of tissues in the pack to make it look full. Then put a dob of chocolate on the straw tip and push the bag onto it,the chocolate will stick to the tissue and bag keeping it in place...

To finish I just stuck a few lollies on the board and using some stick on letters wrote "Book week" on the board ..

Next time I will make a cake (maybe) and I will ice the cake with butter icing only because you have more time to stick your lollies in but you would still need to use the chocolate for the stick ....

I have see so many variations of this cake the possibilities are endless. I am going to make one using Malteasers for Ashley when they return from their trip.

There you have it my take on the Gravity cake...

Just a close up of the straw being covered in chocolate and lollies.

On a little ending note the cake was a huge success. LM"s teacher  told us the kids were so excited and it was the first thing they asked about when school started in the morning on Thursday.Kev took the cake in on Wednesday.

The only sad thing was LM said one boy was crying when he saw the cake because he wasn't going to be there next day and he would miss out so the teacher gave him a couple of the lollies...

My cake cost around $10 (because I bought a ready made one) and the look on the LM's face when he saw the cake PRICELESS and SO WORTH IT....

Today I am sharing at Wow us Wednesday

Book Week 2014 Where's Wally

Its that time of year again when you scramble for something for your child to wear for book week.If LM could wear a computer outfit he would that's how he likes to read....

I wasn't up to making something  so checked out Ebay and choose a few then let the LM pick what he wanted.

What he wanted to be was Wally from Wheres Wally so I pressed "buy" and waited till it arrived.

When it arrived everything was fine I should have got LM to try his shirt on as it was a little too big but he loved it....

Wide eye Wally......

My cute Wally......

Aww Dad do you have to take my picture Wally...

Deputy Principal found Wally.....the LM was very happy to be fussed on...

So that was book week 2014... maybe next year I will make a outfit cough cough....

New Car

We have had our car for around eight years and it is still like new but it was a two door car and with the LM getting bigger it was time to change.

Kev and I looked at so many cars I was sick of it -too hard we liked this but didn't like that and on and on and on.

Then there was the trade it price. Some car yards wanted us to practically give it to them....

Anyway we ended up going to Subaru and we both loved their WRX so I left Kev to talk the details with them while I went home...

Kev was taking so long that in the end I rang him and said to bring a chicken home for dinner and he said "he cant" I was about to do my normal rant when he said "I cant afford it I bought the car " then he started laughing....

So 3 weeks later Kevin picked up his baby. The LM loves it to the point of driving me crazy telling me what this button does and this button....Kev just has a big grin on his face and has washed it a couple of times already....

Me yeah I love it but wish it was black but Kevin said White is the new black which means ha ha we got a white car....

The best thing though is it has 4 doors....yeah no more climbing over the seats...

So here's to another  eight years of our new car

Pops little Angel

We were lucky last weekend to get to see our granddaughter Shakira.

She is Kevin's middle son Mitchell's daughter and is a little doll.

They live  a few hours away so we don't get to see them much so that's why it was so special

I couldn't get the grin off Kevin's face....

Easy Salmon Pasta

I get sick and tired of cooking the same things over and over again (don't we all) so when Kerry told me about this recipe I didn't hesitate to make it....

Only problem for me was I don't like salmon and I don't like wine which is part of the recipe but I knew Kev would like it so I would make something else for the LM and me...

What you need is....

2 1/2 cups of pasta
2 cloves of garlic chopped
1/2 small red onion chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons of capers
100-200 grams of smoked salmon roughly torn
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 of cream
pepper.

Cook pasta

Put olive oil in pan and cook garlic and onion

reduce heat and add capers and salmon

Add wine cream and pepper and simmer on a high heat till reduced and thickened

Stir through pasta and serve.

It really was that simple.

I thought come on Dee you have to at least try it and I was pleasantly surprised it was good so next time I cook it I will have some. But the biggest surprise was the LM I made him try it and he loved it so I gave him some on his plate with his chicken nuggets. But it wasn't enough he wanted more so he ended up eating a good size bowl of this and his nuggets.

So this dish is a keeper. Thanks Kerry

Bedsides and tallboy.

I recently bought a lovely dressing table from Fiona at Lillyflield Life since then she has been on the look out for bedside tables and a tall boy for me.

The dresser is divine and I am so glad we bought it....

Fiona then rang me the other day saying she had found me the matching set to my dresser.

To say I was excited was an understatement.

So Fiona has painted them in white to match my dresser...

Loving this tall boy.The drawers are so big and deep.

We now have bedsides with three drawers they are a little shallower than what I had but gee I love them .How did I exsist with just two drawers ha ha

Im just loving how they look in my room so I cant wait till we repaint and carpet in here and then Wow they will be fantastic...

Here is a picture with my bed made ha ha ...

So now I have this lovely furniture in my room we have to redo the walls and carpet.... PHEW it never ends.......

Miss Lilly goes to hospital....

In the short time we have had Miss Lilly she has defiantly made her presence know. She is such a good little dog following me around all day always at my feet..

I started to notice that she was limping at first I thought she had just hurt her foot and decided to watch it.but it was obvious there was more going on with her legs.

To cut a long story short our vet  xrayed  her and discovered her front legs hadn't developed properly
and she needed to have an operation to fix her legs. If we didn't she was going to get arthritis around 3 yrs old I didn't want her to be in pain and the vet assured us saying she was only in pain like if we have sore legs at the moment but it will gradually get  worse.

So we decided on the operation along with medication was the best way to go ...They could only do one leg at a time so the vet did the worse one first....

Poor little girl was really in a bad way when she came home heaps of pain killers and we had to keep her quiet which is easy as you doesn't excert her self too much any way....

She still followed me around and didn't leave me. she kinda hopped around which looked funny. Oh they had to shave all that beautiful long hair that was another thing that made us laugh.

Finally after a couple of weeks they took off the  bandages and put this plastic thing on her to stop her licking the wound.

Boy did she look cranky....

Her leg looked so funny  skinny no fur then just a tuff of fluff on her foot....

I do not like this on my head take it off....

My darling Kev even brought home her stitches for me to keep....

So now she is walking OK on this foot and it seems to be better. It will be xrayed in around 2 months time to see how the bones are then we have to get the other leg done and go through this all again.

Oh just to let you know it cost $1500 for this leg and like I said we have to do it again so another $1500 .Oh well she is my baby and I don't want to see her in pain so its just one of those things...
